Cocopah Tribe's police chief receives top honor
The head of law enforcement for the Cocopah Tribe of Arizona was named Police Chief of the Year by the National Native American Law Enforcement Association. Chief James Spurgeon said he was surprised to win the award. He was recognized for his efforts to improve cooperation with other law enforcement agencies and for working on border security. "I'm very fortunate as a police chief in Indian country to work with a tribal council that supports its law enforcement program and stands behind us as we move into the future," Spurgeon said at NNALEA's recent conference, The Yuma Sun reported. Spurgeon has worked for the tribe for three years. The reservation straddles the U.S.-Mexico border. Get the Story:
