A woman from the Blackfeet Nation of Montana who was sentenced to 55 years in state prison for the death of her two-year-old son has been indicted on a charge of stealing from the federal government.

Summer Many White Horses, 32, received money from the Social Security Administration to help her care for her son, James, who was autistic. Federal prosecutors say she continued to cash the checks even after she admitted killing the boy and leaving him in the trunk of her car.

James died sometime in June 2008. Many White Horses continued to receive checks until September 2008, when she was arrested for the boy's death.

The federal indictment came in November 2008 but the U.S. Attorney in Montana waited until the state case was resolved to proceed.
