The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut hosts the annual Mohegan Wigwam Festival on Saturday.
The event usually lasts two days but the tribe scaled it back in response to the economy. ”Everyone has cut back a little,” historian Melissa Tantaquidgeon Zobel told The New London Day. “We thought it was the prudent thing to do this year. We didn't want to have to charge admission.”
The nearby Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation also cut back this year, canceling its massive Schemitzun in favor of a smaller powwow later this month.
