A woman from the Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Ojibwe Indians of Wisconsin has been with homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle in connection with a death of a fellow tribal member.
Gina Trepanier, 26, allegedly hit Cynthia Gordon, 47, on a highway on the reservation. Trepanier at first said she didn't realize she struck someone but later went back to the scene and admitted her involvement.
Authorities believe both Trepanier and Gordon were drinking.
"Anytime we hear a tragedy on the reservation involving one of our members it affects everybody because we are closely related here so it hits home when you hear something like this," Secretary Treasurer Brian Bisonette told FOX21 News.
Trepanier has been released on bail.
