Osage Nation buys ancestral mound in Missouri
The Osage Nation of Oklahoma purchased an ancestral mound in St. Louis, Missouri, for about $230,000. The tribe will preserve the 40-foot-high Sugar Loaf Mound. It is the last of its kind in the St. Louis metro area. "This is something that has been in the back of our minds. This city was known as Mound City before it was called St. Louis," Chief Jim Gray told The St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "And all those mounds are gone." The tribe will build an interpretive center at the site. Get the Story:
