Leaders of the Lummi Nation of Washington will vote next week on an agreement with the Port of Bellingham.

The deal resolves a number of issues affecting development on the waterfront. "It's a big step for both the tribe and the port," Chairman Henry Cagey told The Bellingham Herald. "We're on the same page."

The agreement outlines how the tribe and the port will work together to prevent damage to treaty resources. In exchange for the tribe's support of development projects, the port is offering financial and other benefits to tribal members who fish on the waterfront.

Port commissioners will vote on the agreement next week as well.
