The Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma is conducting a feasibility study on wind power.
The tribe could build a wind farm and supply power to communities in the northeastern part of the state.
"It's a very exciting time to see everyone interested in going green, and we're excited about exploring all of those options," tribal spokesperson Amanda Clinton told The Tulsa World.
A Tulsa city councilor is already interested in working with the tribe. "I think this is exactly what we need," said Dennis Troyer, who believes wind energy will lower the city's energy bills.
The tribe's wind farm would be located in Newkirk.
