Shawn Atleo of British Columbia is the new chief of the Assembly of First Nations.
Atleo, a vice chief of AFN, was leading as balloting entered an eighth round this morning.
But then Perry Bellegarde of Saskatchewan, the closest challenger, conceded.
The 20-hour vote was the longest in AFN history.
