Tulalip Tribes on the lookout for new police chief
Scott Smith, the police chief of the Tulalip Tribes of Washington, resigned last week after about 18 months on the job.

Smith, who is non-Indian, said the tribal council asked him to leave. He was told he wasn't a good fit for the job.

"We made a lot of good progress,” Smith told The Everett Herald of his tenure, which included cross-deputization with Snohomish County.

Chairman Mel Sheldon said the tribe would prefer to hire a Native American or someone who has experience in Indian Country.
