A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit in which the Nisqually Tribe claimed jurisdiction over the Frank's Landing Indian Community in Washington.
The Nisqually Tribe asserted control over Frank's Landing and a smoke shop at the community. But Judge Ronald Leighton said Frank's Landing, as a self-governing community, has the power to enter into contract with the Squaxin Island Tribe to operate the smoke shop.
The lawsuit was filed against the state of Washington. The Squaxin Island Tribe has a tobacco compact with the state.
