Heather Dawn Thompson leaves NCAI for law firm
Heather Dawn Thompson, a member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe of South Dakota, has joined the Washington, D.C., office of Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal.

Thompson will be a partner in the firm's Public Law & Policy Strategies and Indian Law & Tribal Representation. She is one of the few Indian women partners at a large national law firm.

"Heather's extensive work in all aspects of Indian law positions her well to help grow our tribal practice," said Alan R. Fedman, the chair of Sonnenschein's Indian Law & Tribal Representation Practice. "As the president of the National Native American Bar Association, she will immediately increase our visibility."

Thompson most recently served as government affairs director for the National Congress of American Indians. She also served as an adviser to former Sen. Tom Daschle (D-South Dakota).
