A father and son from the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa
Indians of North Dakota were murdered over a debt, a witness in a double homicide trial said.
Robert Belgarde, 40, and his 19-year-old son, Damien Belgarde, were found dead on September 7, 2001. Witness Manuel Delgado said the men were lured to an area of Grand Forks by a defendant who wanted to kill them.
Delgado said defendants Billy Joe Aguero and Joseph Moncada gave him details of the killings. The details matched forensic and DNA evidence at the scene, according to prosecutors.
The killings were linked to drugs, according to Delgado and prosecutors.
