Update: Text of Tom Perrelli Speech and DOJ Press Release.
A top Department of Justice official will discuss Indian Country crime at the midyear conference of the National Congress of American Indians.
Associate Attorney General Tom Perrelli is scheduled to address tribal leaders this morning at the Conference
Center Niagara Falls in Niagara Falls, New York. According to The Washington Post, he will promise more grant money and announce an effort to establish a permanent Office of Tribal Justice at DOJ and to improve coordination among federal prosecutors.
Later this month, Perrelli is expected to testify before the Senate Indian Affairs
Committee on S.797, the Tribal Law and Order Act. And later this year, Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. will lead a listening session to discuss Indian Country public safety.
