The Jicarilla Apache Nation of New Mexico reached a right-of-way agreement with Enterprise Products Partners.
The tribe and the company initially discussed a profit-sharing agreement. But they settled on a traditional right-of-way deal that is linked to the price of natural gas and the volume of gas transported along 545 miles of pipeline that cross the reservation.
The agreement runs for 20 years and protects certain areas of the reservation from development. Enterprise also agreed to provide scholarships and training to tribal members.
“The Nation’s agreement with Enterprise will stimulate our oil and gas economy while protecting our lands,” Jicarilla Apache President Levi Pesata said in a press release. “I’m pleased we reached this mutually beneficial agreement and the Nation looks forward to continuing our work with Enterprise.”
