Wal-Mart in Montana now accepting tribal IDs
A Wal-Mart in Great Falls, Montana, is accepting tribal identification after being informed of state law.

As of October 1, 2007, businesses must accept tribal-issued cards as a valid form of identification. Employees at the Wal-Mart, however, didn't know about the law until Frank Stiffarm, a member of the Fort Belknap Indian Community, told them about it.

"I just couldn't believe it," Stiffarm told The Great Falls Tribune. "They just kept saying it over and over, that it was store policy not to accept tribal IDs. I told them by law they have to."

After Stiffarm called the Montana Tribal ID Hotline, the issue was cleared up. Businesses that don't follow the law can be the subject of a human rights complaint.
