Northern Cheyenne Tribe offers public transit system

The Northern Cheyenne Tribe of Montana is off the ground with its first public transit system.

The tribe began running buses on the reservation last month. The system brings people to work, to the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the Indian Health Service or just to visit friends and family.

"This program is for the people - it's for everybody reservationwide," Michael Burns, the tribe's transit specialist, told The Billings Gazette. "It's really going to take care of so many needs."

The tribe plans to add more buses and possibly expand the system to off-reservation communities.
