A forum at the University of New Mexico-Gallup compared the struggles of Native Americans and Palestinians.
Speakers at “Two Peoples — One Struggle" said both groups deal with negative government policies. Abigail Okrent, a Jewish attorney who works on the Navajo Nation, said Israel has justified its treatment of Palestinians with language similar to the U.S. towards Native Americans.
Jamal Abdeljawad, a Palestinian who works in the Indian arts and crafts industry, said Native Americans have "been down the path" that Palestinians now face.
