Salazar to visit tribes and UTTC in North Dakota
Interior Secretary Ken
Salazar will meet with tribal leaders during a visit to North Dakota this weekend.
On Saturday, April 25, Salazar heads to the United Tribes Technical College in BIsmarck. President Barack Obama included the college in his first federal budget.
Salazar will also tour the Fort Berthold Reservation. He plans to visit the "one stop shop" federal office that aims to streamline energy development for the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation.
"I’m looking forward to visiting North Dakota, meeting with state and tribal leaders and communities hit hard by recent flooding,” Salazar said. “The Interior Department has major responsibilities that affect the state’s residents, including assisting American Indian communities to develop self-sustaining economies, developing energy resources on public lands and managing water and other critical natural resources. I want to learn how we can more effectively carry out those responsibilities."
During the trip, Salazar plans to make an announcement about funding for the Bureau of Indian Affairsunder the American Recovery and
Reinvestment Act.
