The Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara
Nation of North Dakota is benefiting from an influx of federal funds.
The tribe received $9 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The money will be used improve housing, roads and water systems, said Chairman Marcus D. Levings.
Another $17 million from the Fiscal
Year 2009 Omnibus Appropriations Act will help the tribe build a long-awaited hospital. The facility will be constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
and handed over to the Indian Health
Service when it is completed in February 2011.
