Supreme Court won't hear Pine Ridge drug appeal

The U.S. Supreme Court won't hear the case of a woman who was convicted for running a drug ring on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.

Geraldine Blue Bird, 53, a member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe, was convicted of conspiracy to distribute cocaine, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession of a firearm in relation to drug trafficking and conspiracy to distribute marijuana. She was sentenced to 34 years in prison.

Blue Bird downplayed her role in the drug ring. Authorities said she oversaw the operation in a home that was donated to her after former president Bill Clinton visited the reservation in 1999.

The Supreme Court denied the petition in Blue Bird v. US on March 23.
