A series of drive-by attacks on Indian pedestrians in Rapid City, South Dakota, last week was not the first incident of its kind.

On March 8, Karmelita Plains Bull Martin and her 16 year-old daughter were walking on the street when her daughter was shot in the thigh with a BB gun. It turns out one of the teenagers suspected in that shooting was involved in the three incidents on March 17, according to police.

Four teens face charges connected to the attacks last week for allegedly shooting pellets at homeless Indians and throwing a liquid, believed to be urine, on them. The attacks raised long-standing concerns about racism in Rapid City.
