Choctaw woman nabs Indian policy post in Arizona
Katosha Nakai, a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, has been named policy advisor on tribal affairs for Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer (D).
As an associate at the Lewis and Roca law firm, Nakai represented tribes on a wide range of issues, including natural resources and gaming. She also served as a clerk for Chief Judge Mary M. Schroeder on the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, which hears a large number of Indian law cases.
“Ms. Nakai possesses a deep understanding of the issues most important to Arizona’s Tribal Nations,” stated Brewer. “I am proud to add her to my staff, and I know her legal expertise and experience will serve my administration and the people of Arizona well.”
Nakai, a founding member of the Arizona Native American Bar Association, previously worked as a television journalist and for the American Indian College Fund.
