The Seneca Nation of New York has adopted national fire-safety standards for the sale of tobacco products on the reservation.
Starting in September, all Seneca businesses must certify that their products meet standards set by the American Society of Testing and Materials. The standards apply to products imported into the reservation as well as those manufactured on the reservation.
The tribe acted after The Buffalo News said most of the brands sold on the reservation fail to meet fire-safety standards.
