The Poarch Band of Creek Indians is not worried about the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Carcieri v. Salazar even though the Alabama tribe didn't gain formal recognition until 1984.

Robert McGhee, the tribe's governmental relations advisor, said the decision was based on "technical language' In the Indian Reorganization Act. The court limited the land-into-trust provisions to tribes that were "under federal jurisdiction" in 1934, when the law was passed.

The tribe's reservation was taken into trust in 1984 and more land was added in 1985.
