A member of the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe was sentenced to 87 months for killing his girlfriend.
Nathan Dutchie, 38, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter. He admitted shooting Jennifer Cantsee, 46, in August 2007 after the death of the couple's 6-month-old baby
Judge Tena Campbell imposed the maximum sentence on Dutchie. She also ordered him to pay restitution of $12,223 to Cantsee's family for her funeral expenses.
The crime took place on the Utah portion of the Ute Mountain Ute Reservation. The tribe's headquarters are in Colorado.
