The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi Indians of Michigan approved the creation of a police department.
The department will be headed by Craig Schwartz, the tribe's director of law enforcement. He will police the 120-acre Pine Creek Reservation, which is home to about 40 people and the tribe's casino, which will open this summer.
"We feel it's a great step forward," vice chair Homer Mandoka told The Battle Creek Enquirer. "We hope to build a department that is admired by others."
The tribe signed a contract with the local town to police the casino for the next three years.
