The Oneida Nation of New York is negotiating an agreement with a utility company over the use of tribal lands.
An agreement would settle a lawsuit filed by National Grid last year. The company said the Interior Department failed to ensure the utility's right to operate on the reservation.
The two sides aren't commenting on the talks but a National Grid spokesperson said the agreement would ensure the tribe continues to receive service. The utility wants to ensure access to tribal lands, the spokesperson said.
National Grid signed an agreement with the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe in January and has one in place with the Onondaga Nation.
