Some candidates for the board in the village of Hobart, Wisconsin, aren't happy with their leaders' relationship with the Oneida Nation.
The town has gone to court over land-into-trust, taxation and sovereignty issue. The town's administrator is the former leader of an anti-Indian group.
Candidate Lance Kelley said the relationship has to change. "Everything doesn't have to be a lawsuit. We need to create our own solutions, whether it's service agreements or other," Kelley told The Green Bay Press-Gazette.
Jim Henn, another candidate, agrees. "We'd have to sit down and see what they offer," he told the paper.
The primary takes place next Tuesday.
