Youth from the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community helped Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer (D) light the State Capitol’s Christmas tree on Monday. Jose Martinez, president of the Young River People’s Council, gave a prayer and students from the Salt River Elementary School sang holiday carols, Cronkite News Service reported. “I like to sing and dress up,” fifth-grader Nate Adams told Cronkite. “It was really fun to see the governor, and I like being with my friends.” The tree contains a Native ornament and others to symbolize Hanukkah and Kwanzaa.
