Robert Coughlin, a former Department of Justice official, was sentenced to month in a halfway house, three years probation, a $2,000 fine and 200 hours of community service in connection with the Jack Abramoff scandal.
Coughlin was a liaison in DOJ's Office of Legislative Affairs. He admitted he accepted gifts in exchange for helping Abramoff's clients, including the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians.
Coughlin was a friend of Kevin Ring, whose first trial ended in a mistrial. A new trial is set for June 2010.
