The Washington State Transportation Commission will consider a proposal to name a new ferry for Chetzemoka, a chief of the Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe who lived in the 1800s.

Todd Pacific Shipyards submitted Chetzemoka's name for the 64-car ferry. The request will be considered on October 20.

"It's kind of neat to have something named after your great-great-grandfather," Les Prince told The Seattle Times.

Chetzemoka, who lived from 1808 to 1888, was known for seeking peace with non-Indian settlers.
