Bryanna Antone, a member of the Navajo Nation, was killed last week in Hawaii, where she was celebrating her 25th birthday.
Antone went to Hawaii for the first time as a gift from her mother, who was attending a dental convention there. She was found dead on Waikiki Beach in the early morning hours of Friday, October 2.
Authorities arrested Aaron M. Susa, 31, in connection with Antone's death. The pair had been seen together before Antone was found.
Antone was an aspiring actress who worked on a number of productions in New Mexico. She had studied film at the College of Santa Fe.
"She was very beautiful and she had a great stage presence," friend Kim Gleason told The Albuquerque Journal "She wanted to perform and to be known for that."
