Two Native RCMP officers have filed lawsuits for what they said was discriminatory treatment on an assignment in Afghanistan.
Cpl. Greg Blain, who is currently serving as chief of the Ashcroft Indian Band in British Columbia, and Sgt. Derrick Ross , who is Metis, were sent to Afghanistan in 2007 to teach policing techniques. They say they were treated as "inferior" by non-Native officers and that superior officials failed to address racial tension.
The men filed separate lawsuits with the B.C. Supreme Court. Defendants include the RCMP, the B.C solicitor general, Canada's attorney general and the federal minister of public safety.
