Members of the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe of New York went to the polls on Saturday to vote on two issues and choose a new chief.
Voters approved the creation of a tribal electrical utility. After withdrawing from the National Grid, the tribe plans a $13.7 million power plant and distribution system.
On another issue, voters approved the settling of tribal land disputes in tribal court.
Finally, voters elected Mark Garrow as chief. Former chief Barbara Lazore decided not to seek re-election.
