Willie Kesoli Begay, a member of the Navajo Nation who served as a Code Talker during World War II, died on Monday. He was 88.
Begay is the third Navajo Code Talker to die within the last two weeks. “It’s really unfortunate. I thought about what happened, and that’s the third Code Talker within two weeks, so then I thought about stories that people talked about from a long time ago. When someone passes away, they don’t go alone,” Navajo Nation Council delegate Amos F. Johnson told The Gallup Independent.
Begay, who received a Congressional Silver Medal for his efforts during WWII, was from Arizona. He was buried yesterday.
