The New
Mexico Cultural Properties Review Committee will hold a public meeting tomorrow to consider protection for the sacred Mount Taylor.
Acoma Pueblo, Laguna
Pueblo, Zuni Pueblo, the Navajo Nation and the Hopi Tribe are
seeking to protect the site from uranium mining. Placement on the Register
of Cultural Properties from the state committee could prevent development.
Landowners and local officials oppose a listing out of fear it will prevent them from using their property or visiting the site.
