The Navajo Nation Council authorized $300,000 to expand the tribe's eyeglass program.
The program previously served elders. But it's now open to all tribal members who need eye exams and eyeglasses.
"The needs are massive," Delegate Leonard Anthony told The Farmington Daily Times. "The legislative language was worded so all people can be served."
The tribe signed a contract with Bishop Optical to provide services. The company expects to see 4,000 Navajos by the end of September.
"It's crazy," owner Doug Bishop told the paper. "We're doing a couple hundred pairs of eyeglasses per day."
