Two counties in New York are hosting a meeting to discuss the Cayuga Nation's land-into-trust application.
The tribe wants 125 acres in Cayuga and Seneca counties placed in trust. The land is within the tribe's ancestral reservation, as described by the 1794 Treaty of Canandaigua.
The tribe already operates several businesses on its land. The counties say they have jurisdiction unless the land is in trust.
The Bureau of Indian Affairs is expected to release a draft environmental impact statement on the application, The Syracuse Post-Standard reported.
