Pueblo artist brings designs to New York Fashion Week
Virgil Ortiz, a potter and fashion artist from Cochiti Pueblo in New Mexico, is bringing his designs to New York's biggest fashion event
Ortiz will be showcasing his Fall 2009 line during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Space for his latest works is being provided by Ramscale, an event venue in New York.
As part of Fashion Week, Ramscale is hosting a reception for Ortiz and two other designers -- Patricia Michaels (Taos Pueblo) and Dorothy Grant (Haida) -- on Tuesday, February 17.
The reception is hosted by Gail and Murray Bruce and Michael Chapman, a former chairman of the Menominee Nation of Wisconsin. Gail Bruce is a founding board member of the American Indian College Fund.
