The Passamaquoddy Tribe at Pleasant Point has eliminated its dispatch service amid wider budget cuts, The Bangor Daily News reports.
The tribe laid off four full-time and 11 part-time dispatchers. Calls are now being routed through a communication center off the reservation.
"We are in a time of cost savings. So we are looking to see how we can run a lean budget and that is one of the areas we can switch over," Chief Rick Phillips-Doyle said.
The Passamaquoddy Tribe of Indian Township is not affected by the change.
