Firefighters for the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut want to organize with a labor union.
The Uniformed Professional Fire Fighters Association filed a petition with the tribe's Employment Rights Office. The union seeks to organize under tribal law.
Some gaming employees are currently organizing under tribal law in a settlement that averts litigation over the application of federal labor law on the reservation. The Foxwoods Resort Casino rehired 21 union-affiliated card dealers it had laid off.
