Carl Venne, the chairman of the Crow Tribe of Montana, pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor DUI charge.
Venne was involved in a single-car accident on October 25. His blood-alcohol level was 0.17 percent, more than twice the state's legal limit of 0.08.
"I'm going head on to face it and try and settle it and do everything I can to clear it up," Venne told The Billings Gazette.
A trial was set for May 19, 2009.
