A former leader of the Passamaquoddy Tribe of Maine was found guilty of 29 of the 30 charges he faced.

Robert L. Newell was the governor of the tribe's Indian Township reservation. He was accused of misusing $1.7 million in federal and tribal funds.

Newell, who testified in his own defense, plans to appeal. "This is not going to stand," he told The Bangor Daily News. "This decision is incorrect."

Also found guilty was the tribe's former business manager.
