The Blackfeet Nation of Montana is working with Anschutz Exploration Corporation and the Bureau of Indian Affairs to explore for oil on the reservation.
Anschutz is drilling exploratory wells in two areas on the reservation. Work completed in one area last week and the next site is due to come online this Friday.
"It'll be huge, not only for the Indian people, but for everybody Ron Crossguns of the BIA told The Great Falls Tribune.
Officials are hopeful development will generate revenues for the tribe and its members. Oil has been found on the reservation in the past.
