Jimmy Carl Black, influential drummer, dies at 70

Jimmy Carl Black, the original drummer for Frank Zappa's influential Mothers of Invention group, died on Saturday. He was 70.

Black was born James Inkanish Jr. and was of Cheyenne heritage. He started working with Zappa in the 1960s and delivered a famous line on the group's third album: "Hi, boys and girls. I'm Jimmy Carl Black and I'm the Indian of the group."

Black moved to Germany in the 1990s after marrying his second wife. He continued to play music and started the Inkanish Record Company.
