Tribes with treaty rights on the Columbia River are asking the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to reconsider approval of a liquefied natural gas terminal in Oregon.
The Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation of Oregon, the Nez Perce Tribe of Idaho and the
Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission say the FERC violated its trust responsibility. They say the agency didn't consider the impact of the LNG terminal on treaty rights.
The state of Oregon, the state of Washington, another federal agency and several citizens' and conservation groups are also challenging the FERC's approval of the Bradwood Landing project. Backers say it's the first LNG terminal on the west coast to win federal approval.
