American Indians are more likely to die from stroke than African-Americans or Whites, according to a study published in the journal Circulation.
The stroke facility rate among American Indians was 1.5 times higher than other racial and ethnic groups, the study said. The stroke rate was also higher among Indians than African-Americans or Whites.
The Strong Heart Study tracked more than 4,500 members of 13 tribes. Researchers said smoking and obesity increase the risk of stroke.
