Loren Goldtooth, a former housing official for the Tohono O'odham Nation of Arizona, was sentenced to one year in prison on embezzlement and tax evasion charges.
Goldtooth, 52, was convicted of stealing more than $50,000 from the tribe. He was the executive director of the Ki:Ki Association,. the tribe's housing authority.
"Senior tribal officials who are in a position of trust in their communities should keep the well-being of their constituents ahead of their own," U.S. Attorney Diane Humetewa said in a statement.
