Congressional Black Caucus to discuss Freedmen
The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation is scheduled to hold a panel on Freedmen issues at its upcoming conference in Washington, .D.C.

The panel is due to take place at 1pm on Friday, September 26. A similar discussion took place last year at the conference.

CBC members are sponsoring legislation to cut funds to the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma unless the Freedmen are restored to permanent citizenship within the tribe. The Freedmen are the descendants of former slaves.

The D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals recently ruled that the tribe itself cannot be sued by Freedmen over citizenship. But the court said individual tribal officials are open to lawsuits.
