Nine churches on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota are closing due to dwindling attendance.

The Episcopal Church of South Dakota will also change the status of two churches to reflect lack of attendance. Five churches will still operate on the reservation.

"I tried to talk to people about the consequences if church attendance didn't go up," The Rev. Rhoda Mesteth, told The Sioux Falls Argus Leader. "They never say anything."
